About Acupuncture

Although its history of use in the United States is about 40 years old, acupuncture has been used for treatment of various ailments for thousands of years in China. It is a therapy that balances the energy of the body using solid, sterile, disposable needles that are hair-thin. These needles are inserted into the body at various points in order to regulate the energy of the body. These points are along energetic pathways called meridians.

When the body manifests symptoms, an acupuncturist assesses where the energy may be deficient, where it may be in excess, or where it may be stagnant. Based on an Asian medical diagnosis, a formula of points is selected. Each treatment lasts approximately one hour, and most people find it to be very relaxing. Acupuncture can help not only with symptoms of pain, but also with many other conditions ranging from anxiety to gastrointestinal issues to gynecological issues.
